To reflect their love of modernism, we incorporated modern shed roof forms on both house and studio. The buildings were given a unified palette of materials including metal roofs and shingles. Natural light was optimized by means of vaulted ceilings and the addition of clerestory windows. Inside, the finishes, cabinets, and décor were chosen to reflect the modernist aesthetic. Our challenge was to integrate old and new design elements while preserving the value that already existed. It was a pleasure to extend the natural life of this wonderful old farmhouse, fitting it more perfectly to the needs of its present occupants.
